Gang,

This was actually an easier decision than I expected it to be. No hang wringing. No tears. No frustration. In fact, as soon as I decided to do this, it immediately felt 'right', if you know what I mean.

I intend to leave WoW permanently by the end of this coming weekend. I think I've done everything that I want to do,...gotten everything from the game that I've sought. I leave behind only the regret of not being able to interact with some of the nicest people I've had the chance to meet.

But it's time for me to move on to other games, other things to do with my son. I've been playing WoW since beta. I've had a lot of fun, but I want to change direction.

I will be making lavish donations to the guild bank, and players, come Saturday night, about 8 pm server time. I'll set up a calender event...if you want something from my bank, please let me know and log on at that time. I'd rather see it used that deleted. I'll post a list of stuff that I have within the next couple of days. After that, I'll be deleting the characters, and account.

I'm good with this decision. And will miss you all. I just need to find some new hobbies, hang out with Noah more, and not bottle my social life up in an online game.

Thanks to everyone who showed for my last hour in World of Warcraft. I will miss you all. I hope you had as much fun as I did.

Well, the shaking has nearly stopped. After typing in 'delete', I immediately erased the program, mods and support files. Saved IE favorites were consigned to oblivion, though it will take a while (the rest of my life?) to forget the easy ones like wowI(stuckinyour)head.com, wowwikki and (wowcontrolsyour)thott(s)bot.com. I did it right away so as to not loose my resolve.

I woke this morning feeling motivated to do something completely different. So, I actually folded the laundry in a basket rather than wear the one on top. I cooked a full course meal and ate at the table with my son. And I read him a book at bedtime. I then did an inventory of existing games in my library...back to the single player games I once enjoyed.

So far, so good... I'll give you all regular detox progress reports ...stay tuned.

Well, how long has it been, group? I hope you are all well. Seems like I've finally done what I set out to do...give up WoW. We'll see if it lasts into the Fall. Noah is going out West with his Mom for six weeks. This will leave me alone for the better part of the summer. I've been enjoying Mass Effect 1 and 2. Looking forward to the third installment. I have ambition to begin working out again, perhaps I'll begin tomorrow.

Bethesda's Skyrim starts in November. Good RPG goodness! I kinda miss you all, but am enjoying the away time...contact me on Twitter via 'kgbuller' if you'd like. Anyone looking at Knights of the Old Republic? 200 hrs per class.

I just noticed, the thread STARTED two full YEARS ago? I'd say two years is a pretty impressive detox period.

Would that I had that same strength.

I WAS able to take a short break without playing the game at all, and still actually SLEEP, unlike that horrible debacle that inspired my infamous "Vanishing Act" post. So... that's a start, a step in what might actually be the right direction.

I know that choosing not to marry or have kids was the right decision for me, but it does come with a price. I don't doubt your son played a key role in your transition to retirement from WoW. Hang on to that as hard as you can!
