FAQ Q: How do I become a zombie? A: Disease-infected crates are scattered throughout the cities of Azeroth, spreading a sickness that transforms its sufferers into zombies. And of course, when zombies attack, their victims can be afflicted by the disease as well. Q: How do you stop being a zombie? A: The disease can be cured by other players who can cast ‘Cure Disease’ or by special healer NPCs in the cities. Once the disease has run its course and a character has become a zombie, the only cure is death. Q: Can I become a zombie again? A: Yes. Q: As a zombie, what are some things I can/cannot do? A: You can no longer cast the spells/abilities that you had as a normal character, and formerly friendly NPCs now consider you an enemy. You can, however, cast new, unique zombie spells. Q: Anything else I should know while being a zombie? A: As a zombie, you are part of a special faction that is friendly with all zombies and can converse with them, regardless of whether they were part of the Horde or Alliance in their mortal existences. Q: Is it intended that we take dura loss when we die as a zombie? A: If you decide to leave your armor on then the durability damage will happen as usual, yes. Read more here...

I may or may not have started a bit of zombie stuff in Westfall last night, and people were yelling at me that I was killing alliance people. Omg, don't you know that zombies aren't alliance or horde, they're zombies? Sheesh peoples. Brraaiinnnns!

The problem I have with this Zombie thing is
a) Any zombie can attack any character. Whether they are a player or an NPC. There is NO opt out. This is not a PvP server.
b) People are turning NPC's which can and does prevent people turning in quests.
c) There has been NO consultation with players about this.
I do not pay to play on a NON-PvP server to have PvP forced on me. I do not want to turn into a Zombie at all. This has actually annoyed a good friend of mine to the point they have talked about not playing till this Zombie Infestation is over.
ThoughI appreciate to some of you, particularly it appears the people at level cap, that this is a bit of harmless fun. Level 70 zmobies attacking level 20 players is not right. This may not be people in the guild but it means people are attacking toons much weaker than themselves. In PvP this is usually preventable as if you do this too many times you can become exiled from your faction. The creation of the Zombie feature prevents this form occuring and it is being used by some inappropriately and ruining other people's gaming experience which is not right.

ask the player not to tag an NPC. if they continue, file a grievance claim with a GM. players have been banned for killing NPCs that were quest starts/ends, and if people are doing it intentionally to create a problem for other players, it fits in the same category.

The problem with this is the average ticket wait the other night on the server was 3 hours!
I am sorry but this event is on the surface kind of fun and kitsch, for level cappers but is a complete nightmare that should never have seen the light of day, if you were vampires I might let one of you have a nibble. But zombies are just gross. They made a mess of my nice new hat! They also made me nearly break a nail when I killed them all. Do you know how hard it is to get those blood stains out of runecloth robes? Do you? As for netherweave or inbued nether weave, it just doesn't Helia had to dye her robe red! To match.

if you can put names in the ticket, there is usually a resolution, even if you log out before the ticket is answered. i've been /w'ed more than once with "!@#$! you got my lvl blah blah blah banned!" and red looks better on mages anyway. psh, you should check out kev some time red robes, red gloves, red shoulders...and the matching red liberty spikes!

Helia is very much a blue mage. She likes it. She has the whole tragic history to go along with the colour. LOL.
She is not a happy bunny in red. Though she does wonder what life would be like as penguin.

I agree with everything Talia said about the PvP aspect of this. It should not be forced on anyone. And attacking Lowbies is just...well...low. So I fully understand her point and the point of many many others.
BUT!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is brilliant. Do you remember the opening of BC? The second battle of the Dark Portal was supposed to be epic. Instead it became joining a group with a mage or lock constantly AoEing the gate. Instead, we have an event that is truly worldwide and actually does effect the entire playerbase. You can't ignore the infestation like you could the BC stuff.
The zombie infestation is SUPPOSED to be a problem for players, and Blizz has finally figured out a way to make it so. They can program whatever they want, and players will outsmart it. But it is a lot harder to outsmart other players, especially those who thrive on griefing. So, they basically get several thousand free employees making the event truly memorable and, I feel, more immersive. What I wish they had done was give us ways to insta-kill zombies (shot to the head!) or make the zombies only able to move at walk speed while we blast em. Right now, it doesn't seem like we have much of a fighting chance against them, especially if we're lowbies against 70s.
I tell you, Blizz should do consults with me. And please don't get too mad at me, Talia. I'm not saying Blizz is right and you're wrong. Just putting out another point of view.

I would like to tell you all about a fun game i like to play called Zombie Roulet.
Step 1.) Be an inscriptionist over lv 40 step 2.) become infected. step 3.) use a low lv scroll of recall step 4.) Zombie up and start changing what ever city you end up in.
the way this works is when you use the low lv scroll it teleport you to a random place in the old world.
Last night i got Darkshore, gadgetzon and theremore. course i also got slapped down like an unwanted hobo in gadget... the goblins seem to have a much better response time then the elves. but i did infect the arena master. and theremore was no fun as a lv 70 pally clensed me befor i could change. Which was itself awsome, as he RPed the encounter spouting off about the light... blah blah blah my warlock didnt want to hear it!

Immersion is just fine, and I think the event is both creative and appropriate as a worldwide event. Dylyn also pointed out that this is a really interesting way to explore epidemiology. However, I was absolutely furious yesterday when Hypsy and a baby toon got ganked in Lakeshire while the baby was trying to turn in some quests.Starfyre, bless his heart, dragged Halo into an instance to help me cool down.
I don't appreciate my game play being disrupted. If I were up for that, I would be playing on a PvP server. Since I pay my $15/month just like everyone else, I truly resent any disruptive element that prevents me or anyone else, for that matter, being able to do other things. If this were something we could join when we were in the mood, I'd be all for it. As it is, I may not be around much until it ends.

SO weighing in with my two cents worth:
I see both sides of this debate and frankly, it intriques me. While I do not like PVP and generally hate ganking and the like, this is an RP server which, at its most basic sense, means we try to strive for realism in the game. While these world events are disruptive and annoying, they reflect a sense of realism and consequence into a game that is, in my mind, lacking both. While a low level toon geting ganked by a big nasty 70 is a pain, it also teaches caution and restraint. When an infected mob attacks you and you get "the disease", you seek healing. When towns and cities are in a state of upheaval, you look elsewhere for your supplies and quest mobs. A minor inconvienience at best.
Relate this to real life, how much were all of our lives, travel and work affected by world events such as 9/11, stock market instability and the like.
So, while this event is disruptive and annoying, I find it refreshing the Blizzard is confident enough in itself to "upset" its client with an event that opens the story to the expansion the way they have.
In response to the, I pay my $15 bucks and the game should be the way I like it arguement. Well, if the game designers cannot affect the environement that we play in both adversly and positively, how can we expect the game to grow and change.
Again, my 2 cents worth and feel free to disagree.

In response to Shosh -- you make some good points. But this is a game. I'm a reasonably high functioning individual in RL, and I don't need life lessons in my game time.

Agreed Hypsy, And let me say my diabtribe was more meant towards the "you take the good with the bad" theme rather than the " you all need to learn life skills" theme. Insert huge smily face here!
